The sound from a tailpipe of a Mercedes CLS 550 can’t be found in a sound library. Neither can the interior ambiance from the driver’s seat of an S65 AMG navigating the highway at 75 miles per hour. Radio Lounge takes sound design and our client’s productions very seriously. Working with Mercedes Benz of Sugar Land and their agency, Freed Advertising, Radio Lounge wanted to create an exclusive sound library that was an exact fit for Mercedes; the sound of their cars. So here is what we did.
Location recording has been made much easier, without any loss of quality, using a variety of portable digital recorders. For Mercedes, we chose the Zoom H-4, using their XY standard mics and a high sampling rate at a variety of positions in and around their vehicles. The result, Mercedes and Freed got the real thing, from door closes, to engine revs. And it really makes sense. Why wouldn’t you want to showcase a brand or product with the real thing?
Radio Lounge has an extensive sound library, around 7000 tracks, which we reference on a regular basis. But we also understand that keeping it real and tied to the brand takes a little extra effort, something we do every day.
