Radio Advertising Costs in New York City– Costs, Rates, Prices
Excellent questions!
While there will always be exceptions to the rule, here is what Radio Lounge estimates you will pay for radio advertising in New York City.
New York City is listed as market number 1 by Arbitron, the company that administers radio advertising rankings. This means that New York City is number 1 in terms of size (includes geographical and population factors).
Stations within a market are ranked using a variety of demographic categories. For our example, we will show radio stations based upon their 12+ rankings (that means the ranking of stations among everybody ages 12 and above, seven days a week). Some stations will rank higher in older demographics (classic rock, soft rock), some rank higher in younger demos (Top40, Hip Hop).
Top ranked radio stations in their target demographics (for example, Women 25-54, Men 18-49, etc.) can demand higher rates than lower ranked stations. Keep in mind, the highest ranking station in a demographic may not always be the best station to advertise on.
For our table below, we used a standard radio schedule that includes one spot per day Mon – Fri in mornings, one spot per day Mon – Fri in middays, one spot per day Mon – Fri in afternoons, and two spots per day Sat and Sun middays. This comes to a total of seventeen spots per week per station in New York City. This IS NOT necessarily a recommended radio schedule for every application. Your individual objectives and situation may require a very different schedule. However, we have found through our vast experiences that this accurately represents the AVERAGE radio advertising buy on a station in New York City. Thus this represents the AVERAGE range of radio advertising costs that (in our opinion) you can expect to invest for your radio advertising campaign.
We have also listed the radio stations in order of a recent 12+ Arbitron rating survey of New York City. We are not allowed to reproduce actual Arbitron numbers, but this gives you an idea of who the top players are in New York City. Some minor fluctuations occur from period to period, but this will give you an overall feel.
