A recent article by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services talked about Medicare fraud and targeted Houston as one of the cities where Federal Health officials are tightening the screws on various programs and services that are allegedly abusing the system. Right around $60 billion dollars in Medicare fraud occurs annually.
The BBB Education Foundation, based in Houston and representing a wide area covering Texas took a proactive approach with various radio campaigns targeting English and Spanish audiences, especially those over 50 years. The campaigns which ran in the Houston/Galveston, DFW, Beaumont, Corpus and Harlingen/Brownsville markets were created and produced by Radio Lounge, and had two specific purposes – First, to educate listeners on how to avoid being trapped into giving confidential information to unscrupulous service providers, and secondly to solicit volunteers to get the word out on a local level. Senior Medicare Patrol Volunteers are trained and provide one on one sessions for seniors.
